More About

Cue “The Ballad of Mack the Knife”—The Threepenny Opera with its cast of gangsters and prostitutes is back in town. The 1928 musical-theater masterpiece by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, enfants terribles of Weimar theater, gets a radical revival by the Berliner Ensemble and director Robert Wilson (who last staged Quartett at BAM in 2009). Set in the underworld of Victorian London, the story follows criminal Mackie Messer who finds himself in big trouble when he woos the daughter of the corrupt underground boss Jonathan Jeremiah Peachum. For this production, which will be performed in German with English titles, Wilson has brought together the most dazzling elements of German expressionist cinema and Weimar-era cabaret for what should be a feast for the eyes and ears.
Oct. 4-8, 7:30 p.m., 2011
