The Penn and Teller of post-Sondheim pop get right back to where they sort of started by reopening this newly renovated venue with music from their brilliant, Tony-winning musical Passing Strange, which originated here. Their perfectly crafted and literately endowed songs about black and bohemian identity, both here and abroad, make other singer-songwriters sound painfully drab in comparison.
