Female guitar players might be the new black, as Marnie Sterncoyly suggests about halfway through her latest self-titled album, but this one is the real deal, finger-tapping away on rock's glass ceiling while her bandmates do their best to keep up. Usually, they succeed (even if drummer Zach Hill needs to flail around arm-over-arm to do so) and together create a glorious cacophony that somehow manages to be as touching emotionally as it is impressive technically. But if things become too serious, expect Stern to lighten the mood with her unmistakable banter, much of which deals with, yes, her vagina. With No Joy.
