Known for his dazzling sequined costumes and elaborate face paint, performance artist Taylor Mac often uses the stage to explore weighty issues from gay marriage (The Lily's Revenge) to the value of activism (The Walk Across America for Mother Earth). But if Mac has any agenda for tonight's show, which kicks off his concert series devoted to the history of popular music, it's most likely just to have fun. At each performance, the Obie-winning performer will tackle the tunes of a different decade. Tonight, he'll cover the '70s; on October 23, he'll do the '30s; and on November 6, he'll visit the 1880s with Dave Malloy for a rock version of The Mikado.
