Dir. Charles Chaplin (1947). For his first movie since The Great Dictator (1940), Chaplin abandoned the Little Tramp to play a comic version of the French serial killer Henri Landru who unrepentantly declares his crimes paltry compared to those of Western civilization. Critics turned rabid, audiences were shocked and Chaplin was driven from the US not long afterwards.
Wednesdays-Fridays, 1:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 12. Continues through Oct. 14, 2011
