SONIC BOOM

Artists and musicians take over DUMBO

As we were telling you last week, Karen O currently has a new opera, Stop the Virgens, at St. Ann's Warehouse. But the opera, which is cool on its own, is merely the kick-off event for a major two-day music and arts festival hitting the streets of DUMBO this weekend. Presented by VICE and Intel's The Creators Project, the free festival includes music by Florence + the Machine, Four Tet, and Atlas Sound, among others. The glowing, moving stage from Coachella by United Visual Artists, which was inspired by Close Encounters of the Third Kind, will be reconstructed under the Brooklyn Bridge for the occasion. On the art side, don't miss Life on Mars Revisited, an immersive short film of David Bowie's space-rock anthem from rock photographer Mick Rock and filmmaker Barney Clay, as well as works by Spike Jonze, J. Spaceman, and Jonathan Glazer. Now for the bad news: Though the event is free, you must RSVP through The Creators Project website, and "RSVP does not guarantee entrance." Good luck!
Sat., Oct. 15, noon; Sun., Oct. 16, noon, 2011
