On 2010’s Trunk Muzikmixtape and its ensuing 0-60 commercial re-release, Yelawolfendeared himself to listeners across the nation by speed-rapping dense, Winter’s Bone-esque narratives about his rural Alabama roots. “Billy Crystal,” for instance, documents a meth freakout, and the Raekwon-featuring “I Wish” breaks down how a kid could fly a confederate flag while Beanie Sigel blasts out of his pickup. And though no one’s going to confuse Yelawolf for a city boy, New York fans have increasingly warmed to his down-South style since he played his first show here, opening for Wiz Khalifa in the venue he’s now headlining.
