END TIMES

Get a head start on the apocalypse

With 2012 just around the corner, you might be wondering what to expect from the apocalypse. Here to prepare you is the third annual Doomsday Film Festival and Symposium, which kicks off with an art show, displaying several artists’ interpretations of what the end of the world should look like. Film screenings are happening all weekend, including Stanley Kubrick’s Cold War dark comedy Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Colossus: The Forbin Project about evil technology, and the creature feature Lifeforce. Film and doomsday experts will also be on hand for talks and Q&As. For those who want a full dystopian experience, remember to dress the part as zombies, mutants, crazy prophets, or anything else that would show up on Judgment Day. If the end does indeed arrive, don’t worry: You’ll remain safe in their bomb-shelter lounge, where DJs will provide a reassuring mix of public service announcements, industrial noise, and nuclear meltdown warning sirens.
Fri., Oct. 21, 6 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 22, 6 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 23, 2 p.m., 2011
