Dir. Agnes Varda (1991). Varda’s biography of her late husband Jacques Demy dramatizes a future director’s precocious obsession with cinema. It’s also an act of explication, predicated on continual cross-referencing of Demy’s movie and life. Switching between her footage and his, Jacquot is a complex work of reconstruction as well as Varda's means for keeping Demy alive.
