Scopophilia is a Greek word that translates to the “love of looking,” the arousal one can get from looking at a particularly attractive image. And to demonstrate this arousal by great works of art, photographer Nan Goldin was granted permission to shoot freely through Paris’s Louvre. The resulting 400 photographs in “Scopophilia” represent love and desire in the paintings and sculptures in the museum’s collection, alongside some of Goldin’s autobiographical shots from her career. Leave it to Goldin to get around that pesky rule banning photography in museums.
