We said it before, and we’ll say it again: The ING New York City Marathon is the best spectator sport in New York. For a first jump, you can’t do better than Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn. Covering the first leg of the race, the runners are still in great shape—they respond enthusiastically to cheering—and are fairly close together. Adding to the fun are 34 musical acts set up along the avenue and a number of restaurants and pubs both on Fourth Avenue and one block up on Fifth, especially in the Park Slope area (about 16th Street to Lafayette). Just because you’re not running 26 miles doesn’t mean you can’t eat (and drink) as if you had.
