Although they share both labels and a folksy aesthetic, Slow Club is more than just Sheffield’s answer to Tilly and the Wall. Armed with velvety voices and whimsy, Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor weave uncomplicated pop songs anchored by a guitar, the occasional organ, and an absurdist drum kit complete with glass bottles, spoons, and chairs. Although they can get a little bit too twee at times, the earnest songwriting and tender delivery always makes up for it.
