Eric Clapton once described bluesman Buddy Guy as “without a doubt the best guitar player alive,” and that accolade still rings true today. At age 75, the Chicago-via-Louisiana legend still puts on a captivating show, full of tasteful shredding and hammy showmanship, playing behind his back, over his head and, well, even rubbing his instrument on his butt. His latest album, 2010’s Living Proof, won Guy his fifth blues Grammy and tells a semiautobiographical story, including a song warning, “Don’t let the doorknob hit you where my damn dog should’ve bit you.” If he’s not the best, he’s certainly one of the most entertaining. With Quinn Sullivan.
