Kimya Dawson

Think of Kimya Dawson’s courageous-bard bravado this way: twee naiveté mixed with agit-prop napalm. The harder the former Moldy Peach mashes the strings of her increasingly amplified guitars, the more powerful her perpetually-in-redefinition take on anti-folk becomes. From her eternally youthful perspective, the local is the global, the Golden Rule is gospel, and, as she says on this fall’s Thunder Thighs, “We are all in this together.” Forty something and fearless, she’s more Guthrie than Morello, with a devastatingly alive catalog that’s uncannily anticipatory of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
