More About

In August 1971, former Beatle George Harrison and classical Indian virtuoso Ravi Shankar organized the first-ever megastar benefit musical performance, the Concert for Bangladesh, which funded relief efforts for Bangladeshi refugees in East Pakistan. Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Badfinger, Ringo Starr, the event’s organizers, and more performed, and they raised close to a quarter of a million dollars for UNICEF. Tonight, several musicians, including members of Badfinger, Vanilla Fudge, and Billy Joel’s band pay tribute to that event by performing the resultant concert album in its entirety. What’s better, a portion of tonight’s profits will go to cancer research in honor of the since-departed Beatle.
