Think you have what it takes to boldly race through New York City traffic like a fearless bike messenger? Test your courage and speed at Cranksgiving, a race for charity started by the city’s bike messengers in 1999 that has grown to include races in nearly two dozen cities across the country. Here’s how it works: After you register, you’ll receive a messenger’s manifest with the names and addresses of four grocery stores around Manhattan and a list of items that you must purchase at each. Although speed is important, the real trick to winning the race is to be able to sweet-talk your way to the front of the line at the grocery stores. More than 200 riders came out last year in New York and collected about a thousand pounds of food. Help them break the record this year. Costumes are highly encouraged!
