Huntsville, Alabama's G-Side represent an affront to the idea that anvil-hard is the default setting for come-up rap duos. The whispered, murmured rhymes of Yung Clova and ST 2 Lettaz circulate and dissipate within loose, synthesized swirls as threadbare and washed-out as cotton candy. As a result, hater-taunting salvos, touring Europe brags, and street shit-talk come across as disorienting, hallucinatory, and insubstantial, sometimes all at once. If hip-hop is a VHS original, G-Side can come across as 20th generation dub, which goes a ways toward explaining how polarizing these guys are.
