Right now, no one knows exactly what to make of Mac Miller, the Pittsburgh native whose Blue Slide Park recently debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, the first independent hip-hop album to do so since Tha Dogg Pound’s 1995 Dogg Food. Better yet, the album brings left-field beat-makers Young L and Clams Casino closer to the radio than ever before. The catch? Miller’s brand of (white) middle-class “frat rap” turns off as many listeners as it turns on. When we saw him last fall, a virtual unknown opening for a pair of barely knowns, he put on an electrifying set. Expect more of the same tonight, and don’t forgot the Keystone Lights.
