Although she may be best known for her association with the Rolling Stones, Marianne Faithfull has established herself as a music legend in her own right. After re-emerging from a drug addiction in the late ’70s with a deeper, more sultry voice, she reinvented herself with the cold, electronic tones of her 1979 album Broken English, and in recent years she’s collaborated on her own dark-hued music with the likes of PJ Harvey, Beck, Nick Cave, and others. Her latest, Horses and High Heels is among her best, thanks to the haunting “Why Did We Have to Part” and her pensive take on Carole King’s “Goin’ Back.”
