Woods

Like the fading light of a pleasant summer afternoon, the vague sense of melancholy in Woods' Sun & Shade has become the record's lasting image. The band's seventh album overall, it's also their most consistent in its re-imagination of the 1960s as a collage of dog-eared and obscure dollar bin album covers that look too fantastic or weird to pass up. There's real depth in Shade—of emotion, of influence, and yes, of lengthy, dusty grooves—and that depth should translate well to the stage. With Alex Bleeker & the Freaks, Steve Gunn.
