More About

Just a few years back, Philadelphia's Asher Roth was nth-gen rap's Great White Hope, a wiseacre Jewish stoner with a Gangsta Grillz co-sign, an Eminem fixation, and brownstone full of no-melanin self-deprecation. In the wake of how Asleep In The Bread Aisle allegedly bricked—not really a fair assertion given the stratospheric hype surrounding "I Love College"—he's now just another chancer pretending not to lick his wounds as he snaps up guest spots and quietly polishes a sophomore album. What gets forgotten, though, is that Roth is a wickedly, almost devilishly funny MC, a fount of considered, stickily clever rhymes that aren't entirely quotable but transcend punchline/hashtag laziness. His mixtapes stand as testaments to his potential, and it should be interesting to watch his second act.
