Times Up, New York’s direct-action environmental coalition, has a great way to spend New Year’s Eve: Enjoy the holiday lights firsthand during their 14th annual New Year’s Eve Bike Ride/Skate Party. Ride from Washington Square Park up to Central Park’s lovely Belvedere Castle for a New Year’s dance party complete with fireworks. You can also pick up the parade at Madison Square Park (23rd and Broadway) at 10:20 or join the “feeder” ride at the Brooklyn side of Williamsburg Bridge at 10. Or if you want to skip the exercise, come directly to the castle at 11:45 for the big blast. Wear your sparkliest (warm) clothes, bring noisemakers, and pack food and drink to share. It’s all free—just be there!
