More About

It’s hard not to love Fred Da Godson, New York City’s lone representative on hip-hop mag XXL’s February list of 2011’s top freshman rappers. Ten months later, the Bronx native hasn’t broken out to national audiences in the manner of classmates like Yelawolf, Big K.R.I.T., Mac Miller, Lil B, and Kendrick Lamar, but in this town, he continues to run circles around the countless MCs peddling tapes full of 2003 flows over 1998 beats. Fred is aware of his city’s inescapable hip-hop history, yes, but he’s rarely subservient to it, and he has the charismatic likability that much of his competition so desperately lacks. With Push! Montana, NYB, OTiS CLaPP, and Nitty Scott, MC.
