Fork in the Road’s Favorite Special Occasion Restaurants in New York City

by

It’s time for Tuesday Toasts, our weekly feature highlighting the Fork in the Road team’s favorite versions of popular dishes and favorite spots in the city for a given activity. They might not be the best or the coolest or the newest, but instead represent the things and places that are near and dear to our hearts. Will the team have wildly diverging opinions, or do great minds think alike? There’s only one way to find out. Up this week: Our Favorite Special Occasion Restaurant.

“A tie between Txikito and Mimi’s Hummus. I don’t get to either nearly often enough, but when I do, both are pretty special.” –Rebecca Marx

Blue Hill or any of Danny Meyer’s restaurants (Gramercy Tavern, the Modern, etc.) — hospitality goes a long way in my book, particularly when it’s a special occasion.” –Lauren Shockey

Peter Luger.” –Robert Sietsema

“For a special occasion, I still go for Peter Luger. Especially if it’s with someone who’s never been. All the ‘Peter Luger is not as good as it used to be’ talk is bullshit. That’s like people complaining about The Simpsons. It’s still better than most crap on TV. And Luger’s is about the overall experience: the gruff waiters, the celeb sightings … and the steak’s still pretty effing good, too.” –Chantal Martineau
