Franklin Mata, the cop who was accused of serving as lookout while his partner Kenneth Moreno raped a woman in her apartment in 2008, has been sentenced to 60 days in prison for official misconduct plus three years’ probation. Moreno was sentenced this week to one year, but can remain free until his appeal. Mata and Moreno were acquitted of rape in May. The judge presiding over the sentencing reportedly told Mata that “Forever you will be a disgraced police officer.” The two ex-cops will return to court on September 12 for their appeals.
