Fifty years ago, Allan and Sandra Jaffe opened a new venue at 726 St. Peter Street in New Orleans’s French Quarter. Tonight, the jazz band bearing the venue’s name comes to Carnegie Hall to celebrate half a century of music-making and hosting. Better yet, they’ve enlisted a few friends to give them a hand: among others, NOLA R&B legend Allen Toussaint will be helping out on keys, Trombone Shorty will be busting genres, the Blind Boys of Alabama will be throwing some gospel into the mix, and Mos Def will be performing under his new moniker, Yassin Bey.
Sat., Jan. 7, 8 p.m., 2012
