More About

In 2004, artist Andrea Fraser had people racing to a Chelsea gallery to see a 60-minute video she made of her meeting with an art collector in a hotel room where they proceeded to have sex for the camera. For his, er, participation in the project, the collector paid her $20,000 and received his own copy of the video to take home. Was it art or prostitution? Is there much difference when it comes to artists selling their work? These are the kinds of questions Fraser, a practitioner of “institutional critique,” has explored throughout her nearly-30-year career. Tonight, hear the provocative second-generation feminist discuss her practice and some of her videos of her performances, including her 2008 video installation Projection, which she based on her own therapy sessions.
