The serendipitous quality of Central Park is that no matter how much time you’ve spent there, you can still find surprises tucked away in corners off the beaten path. Since this is not the time of year you can lay around on a blanket and enjoy the sun, try the east-to-west Cross-Park Promenade. Among its pleasures are tiny boats powered by the wind, a bench that tells time, and a sculpture dedicated to fresh water. Also, true to the spirit of the Central Park Rangers, if you have a group of seven or more, you can schedule a custom tour.
