Jay-Z takes the stage at Carnegie Hall

Often, Greatest Hits compilations serve as capstones to extraordinary careers or attempts to glean the best of mediocre ones. As the title implies, Jay-Z’s 2010 The Hits Collection, Volume One served as neither: Released alongside Decoded, his stand-alone memoir, it instead commenced one of the rapper’s most productive periods in almost a decade, one that continued with his Kanye collaboration Watch the Throne (Pazz & Jop’s highest ranking rap album of 2011) and birth of his first child, Blue Ivy. Tonight, the self-proclaimed God MC kicks off 2012 with his Carnegie Hall debut.
