More About

For 25 years, cartoonist and author Alison Bechdel captured the gay, lesbian, and transgender experience in the comic strip “Dykes to Watch Out for,” and in 2006, wrote and drew the Eisner Award–winning Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic, about how she and her father came to terms with being gay at the same time. Tonight, Bechdel will discuss her progressive, funny, and often touching work at Long Island University’s annual literature lecture, “Starting From Paumanok.” The lecture is open to the public, which makes up for all those lost years when college lit courses weren’t fabulously focusing on lesbians and comic strips.
