More About

TMZ fans, meet your maker. In Leon Gast’s documentary Smash His Camera, the life of Ron Galella, the “Godfather of the U.S. paparazzi culture” as Time described him, is put on display. From the lawsuit with Jackie Kennedy Onassis, which eventually led to a restraining order against him, to getting socked in the face in Chinatown by the real Godfather, Marlon Brando, the film follows the life of the Bronx native and enemy of Old Hollywood. Gast, who has received an Oscar in the past for his documentary When We Were Kings, was awarded “Best Director” for documentaries at Sundance in 2010 for his depiction of Galella, including his photography exhibits at MOMA and unusually isolated lifestyle. At tonight’s screening (part of the “Stranger Than Fiction” documentary series), the director will be present to answer questions anyone has about the complexities of a man who exposed everybody but himself.
Tue., March 6, 8 p.m., 2012
