Indie Spirit

In it for the love of art

We’re in full art-fair mode with today’s opening of the Armory Show and all the satellite fairs that revolve around it. One of these is the Independent Art Fair, and, like the name implies, it differs from the rest because it’s completely free of corporate and sponsor backing and is a gallery-run organization, which means gallerists equally share the costs of this operation, making it more of a group show than a trade fair. More than 40 galleries from all over the world, including David Kordansky Gallery of Los Angeles, Maureen Paley of London, the Third Line of Dubai, and Gavin Brown’s Enterprise of New York, will be taking up three floors of the former Dia Center for the Arts building, as well as a site-specific environment on the roof of the building, which hosts a café.
