The upside of Mike Hadreas’s success as Perfume Genius is that he’s currently on the road supporting his powerful sophomore release on New York mega-indie Matador, Put Your Back N 2 It. The downside is that dude is playing clubs like the Mercury Lounge, where people stand around and tweet and drink beer—pretty much the exact wrong environment in which to experience Perfume Genius’s thoughtful meditations on romance and trauma. Get this man a space with seats, yo.
