This impressively dreadlocked Senegal smoothie is, at least vocally, a West African cousin of Aaron Neville and Gregory Isaacs, even though Lô's lyrics draw more from Sufi mysticism than lovers rock. Hints of traditional Wolof rhythms, including mbalax, simmer underneath his gentle melodic crooning, and he's been known to bust out a conical timbal drum for Bahia-influenced percussion breakdowns.
