Jonathan Franzen has called author and editor Diane Williams "one of the true living heroes of the American avant-garde," and that's no exaggeration. Besides her own brilliant experimental short stories (her most recent collection is Vicky Swanky Is a Beauty), she has been keeping the spirit of the American avant-garde alive and well with her intelligent literary magazine NOON, which she founded in 2000. To mark the launch of its latest issue, the Center for Fiction hosts a night with Williams and contributors to the magazine, including Deb Olin Unferth, Clancy Martin, Lauren Spohrer (of Two Serious Ladies), Ann DeWitt, Ted Kritikos, and James Yeh.
