An adept of the tar and setar, long-necked lutes related to the guitar and sitar, Mohammad-Reza Lotfi revitalized the Iranian classical tradition by integrating elements of folk music into it. Tar music is thought to help relieve headaches, insomnia, and depression, and Lotfi's spacious, rhythmic improvisations could well do all of the above. Mohammad Ghavihelm accompanies him on the tombak goblet drum.
