Ben Manzone (Benguin) and Daniel Helmer have made soulful techno a Greenpoint cottage industry: They’ve recently founded Pneumatic Records and, as Sycorax, they’ve kicked the label off with their own single, “Scraped and Buttered.” Jorge Velez, a/k/a Professor Genius, first got disco-recognition as the man behind some of the gems on Italians Do It Better’s introductory compilation After Dark, and he’s since delivered quirky synth stylings for labels including L.I.E.S. and Thisisnotanexit.
