More About

Built in the 1930s to take freight trains out of the West Side of Manhattan, the High Line hasn't seen a locomotive since 1980 but, through the untiring efforts of Friends of the High Line, is now a haven for walkers, bird watchers, and public-art appreciators. Every Tuesday, a volunteer expert leads a High Line Walking Tour focusing on the railway's history, design, horticulture, and public art. Enjoy the beauty of the park capped off with fabulous West Side views, and celebrate New York's spirit for making something beautiful out of what was a public blight.
