Kate Simko is a little different from the Spectral Sound crew she came up with: Her minimal house has a more humanly visceral Chicago edge, but, on the other hand, she also has a highbrow, classics-trained film-scoring, Philip Glass-remixing side. The end result is music that’s a little dark but always animated. The best Detroit techno is often called soulful, but Recloose takes that adverb more seriously than most: His rolling, funk-based house is organic, vocal-laden and horn-tinted.
