Mad Decent throws
the block party of the year

Founded some six years ago, Diplo’s label Mad Decent has grown from releasing barely heard baile funk and Baltimore club to helping break rising genres like dubstep and moombahton, influencing everyone up to Beyoncé herself, who cribbed the drums from Major Lazer’s “Pon de Floor” for her own “Run the World (Girls).” Meanwhile, as the label expanded, so too did its flagship event, the annual Mad Decent Block Party. Once an occasion for kiddie pools and free hot dogs, it’s now a touring extravaganza set to bring—among others—Major Lazer, Zebra Katz, Riff Raff, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Baauer, Lunice, Erol Alkan, and Bonde Do Role, the baile funk band that started it all, to the recently redone Williamsburg Park. And though the hot dogs might cost you, the show remains free.
