More About

Before Legos, Tickle Me Elmo, and Speak & Spell, did children from yesteryear really resort to playing kick the can? Certainly not. Century of the Child: Growing by Design, 1900–2000 explores the wonders that surrounded children and childhood through an extensive survey of 20th-century design featuring school architecture, clothing, playgrounds, toys and games, children’s hospitals and safety equipment, nurseries, furniture, and books. Some of the highlights include a collection of dolls painted on wood by Minka Podhájská, a 1933 steel “Skippy-Racer” scooter by John Rideout, and the historic Graf Zeppelin toy dirigible.
Mondays-Sundays, 10 a.m. Starts: July 29. Continues through Nov. 29, 2012
