More About

“Once you ‘got’ pop, you could never see a sign the same way again,” Andy Warhol said. “And once you thought pop, you could never see America the same way again.” And once artists saw Warhol, they could never see art the same way again. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new exhibition “Regarding Warhol: Sixty Artists, Fifty Years” takes an in-depth look at his far-reaching influence on contemporary art. The show juxtaposes Warhol’s work with selections from artists who have been inspired by him. For instance, Warhol’s silk-screen of Coca-Cola bottles is paired with Ai Weiwei’s Neolithic Vase With Coca-Cola Logo; his celebrity portraiture will be shown with contemporary examples by Cindy Sherman and Elizabeth Peyton; and his works that blur the lines of gender and sexuality will be displayed with similar pieces by Robert Mapplethorpe, Catherine Opie, Richard Avedon, and Peter Hujar. Those 15 minutes just keep on ticking.
Mondays-Sundays, 10 a.m. Starts: Sept. 18. Continues through Dec. 31, 2012
