This Baltimore duo started out along a nominally folkier path but lately have been at their strongest when they hit harder, since all those drums and guitars can quickly clear a path for a tender Beth Gibbons wail or a clever Belle & Sebastian melodic trick. Last year's "Civilian" sounds like a grown-up version of the indie-pop heartbreak chronicles of EMA, and in concert the thrilling title track should conjure up a storm of the highest order.
