More About

Interviews can be tedious things for artists who essentially get asked the same questions over and over. As Will Oldham tells music journalist Alan Licht in his new book, Will Oldham on Bonnie “Prince” Billy, “It’s just a waste of time, because it doesn’t have anything to do with anything, and it demands a lot of time and a lot of thought, and the thought has nothing to do with anything.” So, Oldham let Licht conduct what he hopes will be his very last interview ever, which runs for 382 pages and covers everything from his thoughts on the music industry to his love of comedians (“I would prefer to be a Marx Brother rather than Mick Jagger”). As you could have guessed, Oldham will not be at tonight’s book-launch party, but Licht will be because, you know, journalists have nothing else better to do.
