Mitt Romney Leads Us Into an Age of Stupidity

And other points you should consider this election

But don't be fooled. Mitt hasn't evolved. A vote for Romney/Ryan is like asking two seals to perch on a glass table and stay there. If you disagree, you probably want to strap Big Bird to a car and drive cross-country.

Lee i congratulate you for such detailed summary  .  You are right isnot about winning a debate , is about choosing the one who is not going to send USA to another stupid war, The ticket you support during election is already sending bad signals to Russia , and creating the old  image of the big power  who acts alone. Lot of good people like you still has not learned the lesson , the world today is not the world in 1950. An the Usa just don't have the economic power to go alone. The same CEO's you defend gave our power away for money. Right now we depend on other countries for our own supplies, so think about it,,,, BY the way I am a Republican however i am not an extremist tea party idiot , just listening to the rethoric of the Republicans of today make me sick , This is not being conservative , they dont even know what they are any more, In any case for the good of all Americans i wish to win the most reasonable, wise , intelligent and pragmatic of the candidates , some one who can be the president  and leader for each and every american, and I do hope the next four years in the goverment  all our politicians work togther for good sake of Americans Not just for their own private interest:   to ensure the president wont be re elected.That is disgusting and sad for our democracy. Pray for a better Republican Party , the one now is a bad JOKE.

Hello, my fellow American voters!

I just finished watching the Ryan – Biden vice-presidential debate.

The 90-minute debate covered domestic policy and foreign policy.

For a transcript of the debate, see http://www.npr.org/2012/10/11/162754053/transcript-biden-ryan-vice-presidential-debate .

The areas covered tonight were:

(1) Libya (Benghazi) terrorist attack;

(2) Iran and acquisition of nuclear weapon capability;

(3) condition of the U.S. economy;

(4) medicare, social security, and entitlements;

(5) taxes and tax reform, spending and budget cuts;

(6) U.S. military policy;

(7) Afghanistan and terrorism;

(8) civil war in Syria;

(9) role that religion plays for the candidates in their views on abortion;

(10) American people dismayed by presidential campaign tactics (negative advertisements, tearing down each other, not building up the country, etc.).

As an independent, I support the Romney/Ryan ticket.

However, regardless of who I support, I must state objectively that tonight Ryan delivered a second win to the Romney/Ryan ticket.

Ryan’s win was two-fold.

First, he won substantively by addressing the issues and problems directly and without evasion so that the American people could know what Romney and he stand for and what to expect from them as president and vice-president.

Second, he won both because of and in spite of Biden’s consistently rude and disrespectful behavior during the 90 minutes of the debate.

Biden’s tactics to evade the issues and the truth were first and foremost disrespect to us Americans since the overwhelming majority of us watching the debate were interested in hearing from the candidates about facts, figures, forecasts, and solutions for real people with real problems.

Biden interrupted Ryan often, Biden laughed often while Ryan was talking, and Biden pointed his finger often.

In fact, Biden was so much more interested in preventing us Americans from hearing the truth as both sides see it than he was in giving all Americans the opportunity to make well-informed decisions after studying the candidates, their positions, and their actions.

I am quite disappointed in the atmosphere of the debate, first and foremost due to Biden’s rude and disrespectful tactics.

Romney and Obama were far more respectful to each other in their debate than Biden was to Ryan and us Americans in this debate.

As several people so very well noted about Biden’s ill-mannered behavior:

“Biden was on the defensive.

Biden interrupted, laughed, and pointed his finger a lot because he did not want the American people to hear what Ryan had to say.

Biden did not have respect towards Ryan.

Biden was trying his best to attempt to make the American people think that Ryan was not telling us the truth BUT the real truth of the matter is that Ryan was more straightforward, honest, and serious in his statements and much more respectful towards Biden.

This debate was much worse than the first debate because of Biden’s disrespect towards Ryan.

Biden came off as being fake due to his demeanor and his attitude.

During the debate Biden had one major “success” – annoying many of us Americans with his rude and disrespectful manner.”

Ryan won the debate with a high degree of respect towards the American people, Biden, and the moderator, Martha Raddatz.

Ryan won the debate with the very same traits that Romney exhibited - substance, integrity, clarity, facts, commitment, inspiration, and leadership.

But, as I have stated earlier, these debates are NOT about who wins but rather about who are the best people and in the best position in terms of qualifications and character to lead our country in the direction that our country needs to go to solve our problems and make life better for all Americans.

I continue to be inspired by the Romney/Ryan ticket!

I hope that you too are and continue to be inspired by them!

Best regards,

Cas Lee

Hello, my fellow American voters!

I just finished watching the 1st Romney – Obama debate.

It was on the economy, and it was so refreshing to be able to compare Romney’s and Obama’s views on the economy, without any of their “aides” and “campaign workers” interjecting their thoughts and attempting to “massage” various issues.

For a transcript and audio of the debate, see http://www.npr.org/2012/10/03/162258551/transcript-first-obama-romney-presidential-debate .

The areas covered tonight were:

(1)  jobs

(2)  budget deficit and debt

(3)  social security and entitlements

(4)  federal regulation of the economy

(5)  healthcare

(6)  the role of the federal government in the economy

(7)  partisan gridlock and how to handle it (i.e., how to get democrats, republicans, etc. to cooperate)

As you know, as an independent I support the Romney/Ryan ticket.

However, regardless of who I support, I must state objectively that Romney clearly won this 1st debate – I don’t even have to research who won since it was so very EVIDENT that Romney won.

In my estimation, from a substantive standpoint, Romney won “hands down” on 5 of the areas covered, and 2 of the areas were a toss-up (although in 1 of these 2 areas in my debate notes taken I wrote “Romney won or toss-up” which essentially means that Romney won but not to the “hands down” degree that he did on the other 5 areas).

Romney won the debate with substance, integrity, clarity, facts, commitment, and inspiration.

But these debates are NOT about who wins but rather about who is the best person and in the best position in terms of qualifications and character to lead our country in the direction that our country needs to go to solve our problems and make life better for all Americans.

I am inspired by the Romney/Ryan ticket!

I hope that you too are inspired by them!

Best regards,

Cas Lee

As a San Francisco gay man of the same age - I thank you Michael Musto for telling the truth about how devastating a Romney/Ryan regime would be for the LGBT community, women and people of color. I am beguiled by the lack of attention paid San Francisco Gay Magazine/Newspapers (i.e. The B.A.R.) to this most critical election in our lifetimes. Under President Obama, we have made historical gains for the LGBT community - yet support in the west coast press is anemic at best. The Democrat Convention this year was the first time in my life I have heard full throated inclusion of LGBT rights by each of the major speakers, including former President Clinton and President Obama. We must turn out the gay vote in every state - not just the blue coasts. All of us must engage our family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to vote for President Obama and democrats all the way down the ticket. So much is at stake: The Supreme Court, gay rights, women's rights, immigration, affirmative action, anti-gay bullying laws. We must NOT allow a right wing takeover of our country. Mitt Romney would ax Obamacare and all AIDS subsidies which would return us to those horrible years early in the AIDS crisis under President Reagan. My life and the lives of my LGBT brothers and sisters are at real risk. The LGBT Community would be among the hardest impacted if we allow a GOTP takeover - we stayed home in 2010 and allowed the GOTP to takeover 17 states during that red wave. The laws they have passed are extremely anti-women and homophobic. I respectfully ask the LGBT community across the United States to donate and/or volunteer for President Obama NOW - TODAY - We must win this election or suffer under the harsh rule of the extremely conservative Republican Party of today (these people make President Reagan seem like a moderate Democrat. We must act now or suffer an unending dark future!

The heading of your article is "stupidity". All the things you attributed to Romney didn't show that he's stupid. I guess that's a carryover of the usual liberal insult. It seems that anybody to the right of a liberal is stupid while those to the left, say Bin Laden, is only sadly misguided. It's easy to see why a civilized dialogue is impossible for liberals as they believe it's fruitless to exchange ideas with "stupid" people. Probably the worse thing about the debate was that Romney was not a bumbling idiot nor did he have two heads as usually depicted by the media. All this and I'm not even a republican. I'm just not flexible enough to get my head up my .....................!

Remember....Willard Romney is a businessman...he will say whatever it takes to close the deal...it truth doesn't matter, inconsistency is irrelevant and personal beliefs are no hindrance as long as you CLOSE THE DEAL...and that's what he's trying to do. His debate performance highlights that. Can't tell you the number of time I have sat through the same type of BS in the business world...tell 'me what they want to hear. He is walking, talking Slideware personified..

Romney is stupid. Then how the fuck did he make millions and is near becoming President?  Who is stupid? The whole "progressive" philosophy in 2012 seems to be everybody not like them is a moran, uncultured and racist. Romney is evil check the earlier reporting here and in Rolling Stone to see why. But that takes effort, easier to spend time obsessing over phopah's. "I like firing people" not a stupid statement to laugh at but who he and Bain are to their core.  Instead of celebrating the election of Obama for the color of his skin you(progressives) should have been on his case as he instead of jailing them rewarded the people who caused the collapse and expanded greatly on Bush's national security state another words made America a truly fascist country

you should ask yourself one thing: When McCain was running for President, he considered Romney as his running mate, but rejected him over Palin. Stop and think about this - a former mega rich governor was rejected over a semi literate snow billy. Ouch! There has to be something major wrong with Mitt for that to have happened.

I blame christians for this whole thing. If we had people who used reason to come to decisions, the republican party would be VERY different. Seriously, debating gay marriage in 2012 is the very best example of a society that is still stuck in the middle ages. Hardcore totalitarian islamic regimes and the US, the only nations who think homosexuality is detrimental to society as a whole. Absolutely insane.

@laroca55

Good little thread here. The Republican Party of today is a combination of religious fundamentalists and anarchists.  That’s right anarchists not libertarians, not conservatives. Libertarians believe in as little government as possible that in most situations private business is preferable. Most true libertarians allow some government for national security in the broad use of the term. The “tea partiers” believe all government is evil and that is anarchism.

“Tea Partiers” act on these beliefs by openly and on purpose destroying the economy to create a debt so high government has to massively cut back.  15 years ago they impeached a president over a blow job at a time of crucial world transition.  These actions were and are acts of moral if not legal treason.

But there are some exceptions to the all government is evil beliefs .  One exception is the most intimate part of our lives the sexuality part,   another exception is for you if you fit the profile of a terrorist. A lot of these “libertarians” have not said a word opposing Obama’s expanding  of the Bush national security state.  Ayn Rand would definitely not approve.

They have bastardized the word “conservative”. It used to mean in part “law and order”.   Being a true conservative means favoring being tough on and certainly not rewarding criminals but their victims.   This means all criminals including cooperate ones and rapists. The difference between Obama and today’s republicans is which industry deserves welfare checks from the government.

 @audgepodge123 Have you not listened to the man? He contradicts himself constantly, you can't say two polar opposite things and claim both of them are true. The guy only says what suits him at the time with no regard to the consequences.

Examples: "The president has not signed one new free trade agreement." He's signed three, with S Korea, Columbia and Panama. Look it up. (http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/08/politics/fact-check-romney-trade/index.html)

"I won't raise taxes on the middle class." Nope, he admitted this (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/09/24/even-mitt-romney-admits-hell-need-to-raise-taxes-on-the-middle-class/)

"I don't have a $5T tax cut." He's said that he would cut income tax rates by another 20%, that equals to $360B in the first year, and extrapolates to $5T over a decade. Look that one up yourself.

I can go on.

EdwardK
EdwardK

@EdwardK

I wrote  “national security state” .We have passed laws the that Obama signed that President or military can indefinitely detain or assassinate anyone anytime anyplace period.  The unconstitutional  snooping of what we say and do on the internet  started by Bush has been expanded  under Obama. Cameras are everywhere recording if not our every movement something close to that. While the cameras are local state governments and private industry and drones are brought to you by various law enforcement agencies I don’t see Obama discouraging it. When you combine the national security state and the government and private industry helping each other at the expense of you and me that is fascism and that is what America is in 2012.

You claim you hate only certain others and since I don’t know you personally I can’t dispute that,  In  years of reading these type of comments section “racist” and moron/stupid/retard or some variant come up nearly every time. I drew certain conclusions from this.   My fopa’s, misspelling s etc were not a plot but a bad day, but it was instructive and so typical of how progressives generally react. Emphasis is on gotcha and snark not the big picture and was not “I like firing people” is who Romney is to the core. It was like you just looking for confirmations of your superiority and stereotypes of who “tea baggers” are.    The liberal movement  was a noble if sometimes naive movement in America dedicated to helping the poor and middle class people,  fight prejudice and dispel stereotypes. Now it is in the words of a great progressive writer about “fear and loathing”. The country gets this. The right successfully uses this Obama won in 2008 and progressives saw it as some sort of transformational moment of “hope and change” dancing in the street. Plenty of voters believed that,  but outside of progressive strongholds it was about desperation  not about a radical shift  of opinion about progressive  solutions

 @EdwardK If you read what you wrote , yes you wrote, you will see why he's stupid (others who started the same business Romney did are billionaires not millionaires)  and progressives does not think everyone is a moran just you bible thumping right wing agenda lieing motherfuckers. And the people that caused the collapse are the very same people you want to elect. And by the way he , President Obama, stopped the war in Iraq (your view of expanding Bush's fucked up national security) . Also according to you this fascist country, your words, was not caused by just one President and what was that about racist, take a look in the mirror pal.

 @EdwardK The Christian shitpile got his millions by using other company's money to seize those companies, then he and his fellow Christian shitbox mother fuckers looted the companies, laid off the American workers, sold the company's assets to foreign companies many of which are enemies of the United States, and socked his stolen money in secret numbered bank accounts in the Cayman Island and elsewhere.

 @cassus You're part right, but it's not the religion, it's the dogma - the demand that the ideology be accepted without question, "on faith". This leads to a failure to question authority, a failure to use reasoning, and therefore, malleability. A person who can be manipulated by emotions and ideology,who will not stop to question, nor to ask, "why". In short, modern day Christianity demands blind obedience. But note the core of Jesus' teaching and how they are the polar opposite of what passes for Christianity today. The give away for most of these Christians is easy to spot- they will talk about "God said, God Commands", but they will never say , "Jesus said this, Jesus taught us to do this."

jill.ellingson

 @papacitosf As a Xian, I am saddened that my faith has been cheapened and reduced to a political playing card by the GOP.  Please try to remember that only the loudest, most outrageous things make the news.  You're not going to read about the community church in Phoenix, OR that hosts a community dinner every Thurs evening for free - no prayer/study or evangelism.  You won't hear about the small church in Easton, CA that has set up a Wed. morning coffee house in the social for high school students who have nowhere else to 'hang out' on their late start day. You won't hear about the group of 50 kids who went down to Mexico to help build a medical clinic.  No.  You'll hear about (and eat up) Westboro Baptists, Jerry Falwell, the 700 Club, and the Moral Majority, and judge all of us by what THOSE people do.

For the record, as  Xian, I support gay marriage, Roe v Wade, legalizing marijuana, and a host of other 'liberal ideas.'  I don't think God belongs in the Pledge of Allegiance (I don't fully agree with the PoA anyway, but that's another discussion), nor do I think there's anything wrong with public displays of faith - just let any faith that wants to have a display do it.  I don't support enforced 'moments of silence' during the school day, but I firmly believe that everyone prays on test days (even if it's a general "please let me do good!" to an unknown, unnamed power).

Now, I'll return you godless heathens to your regularly scheduled Xian-bashing.  (the 'godless heathens' thing was a joke - lighten up!)

 @jill.ellingson  @papacitosf You're quite right - many Christian (or whichever) faiths are compassionate and generous. I admire and honor the people who take on the task of helping their fellows. I often hear about the Christians who fit that bill -  there's a lot more of them in our local paper (in Santa Cruz, CA) than there are stories about Westboro Baptists et al.

But AFAICT that isn't something those people do *because* of their religion; they do those good works because they are good and generous and brave. Then they are *also* religious, and some of them use the religion to clarify or direct those good impulses. But those good people can come from many faiths, or from no faith at all.

The interesting thing is that when good people do good things, they talk about meeting a need, not about doing something "for God" and so the news story is about feeding the hungry - but when mean people do mean things, they know they're basically violating a human social covenant so they need a justification and they bleat "God says so." And so the news coverage ends up unbalanced.

Now, I have to go back to tending the fires for Moloch ... sigh, it looks like we're running short on babies again.

 @throwaway  @christianfigueroa  I'm with Throwaway here. There is NO historical evidence of Christ, not a single major or minor historian even farts about Jesus until 200 years after he supposedly died and pulled some zombie magic out of his hat. There's absolutely no evidence of an earth quake to have happened when Christ died, and there is ABSOLUTELY no evidence what so ever that Christ's death caused the tombs of holy men of his time to bust open and make them rise from the dead (Matthew 27:52). Every religion is based on mysticism, faerie tales (many of them are Babylonian in origin, like Noah's ark {Which would be impossible because you can't fit two of every species along with supplies on a boat a football field and a half long without magical distortions of space within the boat, and something tells me that the ancients didn't have access to space age tech} and Jonah and the Whale {Everybody knows you can't breath inside a whale's stomach, it's full of water, stomach acid, and fish. No air}), and outright bullshit. With morals like "if a woman is raped, the man must pay the father and marry the woman", is there any wonder why the rest of modern society regards Christianity as a religion of ignorant, under-educated, angry psychopaths?  Even more so, as a gay soldier, I'm not afforded the same rights that I fight to preserve for YOU. If I die out there, my boyfriend will not receive the death benefits, he'll have to fight my family for it. While home, my boyfriend can't live with me on base, so I have to rent property off base. Your psychotic religion is infringing on my rights, rights given to me by something far more important than your book of fables, the Constitution, and I will bleed, spit, cry and die for that one very significant piece of paper, for as long as it exists, religious extremists, dictators, and tyrants will never run this country.
