First Blood

Get a taste of the original vampire flick

Not exactly a looker like the fanged heartthrob Rob Pattinson, the big-eared, crazy-eyed Count Orlok nevertheless maintains a penchant for lurking and brooding that rivals the angstiest of teen vamps. The featured creature of F.W. Murnau’s Nosferatu is one of the most recognizable bloodsuckers of the genre. Actor Max Schreck—whose name translates to “maximum terror”—creeps through the auteur’s expressionistic world in a trance, bearing none of the human qualities of other more suave Draculas to come. This is the real-deal vampire, before vampires were all blond and buff and Alexander Skarsgård-y. Tonight’s screening of the classic features a live score and preshow performance by Morricone Youth, the septet with a repertoire of more than 100 soundtrack reworkings. Arrive in costume for prizes and candy.
