Catch Mick Jagger in Performance

When Mick Jagger made his acting debut in Donald Cammell and Nicolas Roeg’s
Performance, the critics were hardly kind. One called it “the most completely worthless film I have ever seen since I began reviewing.” Ouch. Released in 1970 with an X rating after a negative test screening led to a two-year delay, the movie stars Jagger as a washed-up rock star who offers his home to a gangster as a hideout. Naturally, much sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll ensue. Far ahead of its time, the film is now regarded as a groundbreaking cult classic. See it as a part of MOMA’s “The Rolling Stones: 50 Years on Film,” a comprehensive retrospective that chronicles the band from the mid-1960s until today.
