Bravo for including Turin Horse and Once Upon a Time in Anatolia, but then are you seriously saying Master and Moonrise Kingdom are better films????
Back in 2008, reviewing McConaughey's "performance" in the limp adventure comedy Fool's Gold, I wrote that "there's something depressing about watching a fortysomething refugee from a Jimmy Buffett concert spend two hours of screen time trying to get rich quick." This year, though, the actor was nothing short of exhilarating each and every time he appeared on-screen, and there is more to come in 2013, with the promise of a juicy supporting role in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street and the lead in a longtime pet project, The Dallas Buyers Club, about a homophobic Texas electrician diagnosed with AIDS. This alone feels like a reason to believe in the future of movies.

Funny, I hated "The Master" (what the hell did I justwatch?!).....but until I see Django, it really was the film of the year.By far. What other movie have I been so stoked for and yet so confusedbut ambivilent about afterwards in recent memory? None. That's moviemaking.Plus Jaoquin Phoenix was insanely brilliant.
@TimGrierson Just imagine if The Master had a narrative, arcs, scenes that weren't interchangeable & a last hour that didn't fall flat!
you just don't get it.
And that's the whole point of an Anderson film - to feel superior to people by saying "you just don't get it" even though there's really no "it" to get.
@Raphanimal I'm not sure all that's true, but what other people consider flaws in that movie I think add to its mysterious richness.
@TimGrierson Saw it opening weekend, packed house, Century City. Leaving theater the sense of bewilderment and dissatisfaction was palpable.
