Every year around this time we look for the one sporting event not associated with anyone’s holiday, and this year it’s the Professional Bull Riders’ Monster Energy Invitational. We are promised “snot-spewing, bone-crushing, adrenaline-soaked” shows as the PBR tour kicks off its new Built Ford Tough Series with the top 30 bull riders in the country. The goal is to stay on a bucking bull for 8 seconds, which doesn’t sound like a long time until you see the bulls in action. Judging is based on both the rider’s and the bull’s performance—seems like a lot of pressure on the bulls—and the top finishers move on to other events. Tickets are well-priced, starting at $20, so you can bring friends and family. So have a blast, but if you’re not into snot, sit a little farther back.
