More About

Descriptions of Dmitry Krymov Lab’s Opus No. 7, which begins performances January 9 at St. Ann’s Warehouse in association with Moscow Theatre School of -Dramatic Art, make us desperately curious about opera one through six. Krymov, a stage designer and painter, produces epic visions in which lavish visual detail trumps language, story, etc. In fact, the designs often become the actors. In this spectacle, which consists of two parts, Genealogy and Shostakovich, Krymov explores the situation of Soviet Jews and artists under Stalin, material also discussed in this season’s The 27th Man. But Krymov’s play tells the story in a less linear way, with dancing pianos, giant puppets, acrobats, musicians, and visual wonder and surprise.
Mondays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 9. Continues through Jan. 19, 2013
